The book I read is called, Horse Miracles, by Brad Steiger and Sherry Hansen Steiger. The book consists of many short stories about remarkable horses and and some pretty miraculous miracles. The book does a great job portraying a horses' spirit, courage, and strength through these short stories. Through their strength, courage, and beauty portrayed in the book, horses will continue to capture our interest and our hearts. From Seabiscuit to the warrior Comanche to the horses that demonstrate theit loyalty and bravery every day on farms and in riding stables, these noble creatures have proven time and time again that miracles can and do happen. Horses do play a dramatic role in the human experience and this book does a great job of portraying this.
One of my favorite short stories in this book was a story about a skittish horse named Nacho. Nacho was very sensitive to loud noises and would get spooked very easily. One day Nacho ended up having the life of a three year old girl in his hands. The girl was accidentally left unattended on Nacho's back just as a gang of motorcycles were approaching them. As everyone and everything would have done, run and get out of the way, just imagine the situation Nacho was in, considering his fear and sensitivity to loud noises and movement. However, Nacho somehow knew that the three year old girl's life was in his hands and froze as the motorcycles approached and past them by. As the father of the girl approached them after trying to make it to them before the motorcycles did, he noticed how frozen and shaky Nacho was. However, he did not move; he was frozen in fear. Most horses will take off running when something spooks them, even if they are attached in a halter; there have even been cases of horses choking themselves to death in their halter trying to get away from something that scared them. But not Nacho, this horse knew that another living things' life was in his hands and made a huge sacrifice saving the life of the girl. This just shows the courage and love these gentle giants can show to the ones they love.
This book relates to my field of interest because I am very passionate about animals and know that I want to work with animals for a living. "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." -Confucious. This book did a great job of portraying the loyalty and love these animals can show to the people who love and take care of them. What you give, you will get back, and animals will definitely give back their love and loyalty to those who give them their love and loyalty. I would definitely recommend this book to people who share a love for these beautiful creatures and would like to read more about inspirational true tales of these remarkable horses.
